Wine Development Manager - Key National Accounts

Marston’s is a successful and ever-expanding organisation, and we continuously strive to evolve and meet the needs of consumers, our customers and our drinks categories. Our wines and spirits business has developed immensely in the last 5 years, and last year we took the significant step of acquiring Cockburn & Campbell wine merchants, one of the oldest continuously trading wine merchants in the UK. C&C is newly launched, and we’re looking for a motivated individual to join our team and help make Cockburn & Campbell everything it can be. Role will be Field Based with UK wide travel.

The successful candidate will: 

  • Nurture key National Account relationships, providing an appropriate level of support and developing close relationships with key stakeholders to understand their business needs and internal culture.
  • Identify and target opportunities to drive volume and value within your accounts, gaining support from and helping to motivate their internal marketing and sales teams.
  • Gain listings for and grow volumes of our key agency wine brands within the accounts.
  • Use your own expertise to influence the accounts, guiding decisions on range and category activation. Where appropriate deliver training to build capability within the account.
  • Work in close daily partnership with Marston’s National Account sales teams to ensure we are aligned internally.
  • Develop a pipeline of new business in close partnership with internal stakeholders, producing tender proposals and supporting however necessary.
  • Use category insights to underpin your sales approach, helping to simplify the wine and spirits category for our customers without dumbing it down. You’ll need to keep up with market trends, competitive threats and commercial opportunities.
  • Report back regularly on sales performance and key issues.
  • Contribute to the wider Wines and Spirits team, using your knowledge and experience to help shape activity and support your colleagues.
  • Liaise with internal teams to help deliver excellent product-related communication.
  • Translate a complex wine and spirit offering to an informed and clearly explained wine and spirit menu solution.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Trained to WSET L3 as a minimum. Qualification to train WSET would be ideal.
  • A confident communicator with first class presentation and communication skills
  • An individual with strong commercial awareness
  • Committed to development and continuous improvement
