An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Taverns operations team for an Area Operations Manager to support our pubs by driving business performance linked to the overall business strategy.

We are looking for an innovative, pro-active and enthusiastic Area Operations Manager who is passionate about the industry, our customers and our people. You will be responsible for ensuring we have the right people in our pubs who can grow the business and coaching them to go from strength to strength.

The role is field based so you will manage your own diary to suit business needs. A typical week will involve working across your own area as well as spending time with colleagues in the wider team.

 

The Opportunity
 
  • Maximise the potential of our Retail operators to deliver operational excellence, developing their personal and business skills through training, coaching and mentoring.  
  • Motivate each Retail operator towards an end goal which is of mutual benefit to them and Marston’s.
  • Review the Retail operators progress around achieving sales and profit targets through regular business development review meetings.
  • Challenge our operators to dream big by building a culture of sharing ideas and best practice. Celebrate those successes at regular area meetings/forums.
  • Ensure you have a people plan for your area, working closely with the resourcing team to identify and develop talent on your area through strong succession planning.
  • Get to know your competition by conducting regular networking activity to build a talent pipeline and to ensure future people needs are addressed and helping your managers understand that competition comes in different forms, not just other pub businesses.
  • Provide business advice in a non-management capacity to Retail operators, being unafraid to tackle challenging situations and conversations. Find resolutions to conflict in both a management and a business relationship capacity.
  • Full P&L responsibility with a focus on driving sales and profit and delivering great service in every business.
  • Deliver a rolling programme of capital investment into our sites underpinned by commercial decisions on the type of investment that will work for Marston’s, our customers and local communities.
  • Embrace and drive understanding of our key trading formats ensuring brand guidelines and procedures are met at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with the Pubs Code 2016.
Who are we looking for?
  • Experience as a Multi-site Area Operations Manager within Hospitality/Retail industry
  • Strong commercial awareness, experience managing P&L accounts and cost lines to budget
  • A confident and engaging personality with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Energy, passion and be driven by performance and results, experience working to KPI's in a target driven environment
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Good IT skills and tech savvy
  • Experience of leading, developing and managing teams
  • A full UK driving license
